Week Three

It'll be three weeks tomorrow that we've been in Colombia!  Here are some photos from the week:

On Monday Juanita cooked us all the traditional Colombian meal from the city of Medallin.  I forget the name of it, but it consists of sausage, fried pork rinds, ground beef, fresh avacado, arepas, rice, and beans.  As you can see, you can pick and choose what you'd like - it was delicious!

Getting the kids some food

There is an Italian couple staying here who are adopting a sibling group of three boys.  It was the oldest boy's birthday on Monday and the family shared a delicious cake with all of us!

On Tuesday a bunch of us went to the Museo de Oro (the gold museum) in downtown Bogota.  This is a photo that Dad K. took out the window of the second floor of the museum.

Just to give you an idea of what's in the museum, here is a piece that we saw.

After the museum we all went to a market that was across the street.  I love this picture that Dad K. took of Carlos waiting for us as Mom K. decided what t-shirt to buy.

I'm surprised we all look as good as we do in this photo because it was an exhausting morning on Tuesday!  After the gold museum and the market, we decided to take the Transmillenia bus system back to the hotel instead of catching a cab.  There's a stop right by the museum and it's less than a dollar for the adults to ride (kids are free.)  This was a crazy experience!  Fortunately all of us mom's got a seat, but Rachel had Josiah (who's 3) and Gabriella (who's 8 months) on her lap, Connie had Garrett (who's 3) and Henry (who's 10 months) on her lap, and I had Carlos and Maria on mine.  Everyone else in our group had to stand and hold on.  By the next bus stop, there were so many people on the bus that I couldn't even see out the window!  It was beyond crowded.  All of us were uncomfortable and hot, and then Maria started to cry and didn't stop until we got off over thirty minutes later!  She was drenched in sweat and tears poor baby, and therefore so was I!  We wouldn't do this again, but now that we look back, we're glad we had this authentic Colombian experience!

We enjoyed ourselves at one of the Juan Valdez coffee shops this morning

There are several artsy metal trees in the front of the shop.  This is Carlos' favorite one.

This one is my favorite

After going to the coffee shop we walked to a park and spent a beautiful hour together in the warm sun.

It was a great day!
